Global Assessment Report on Disaster Risk Reduction

The UN Global Assessment Report on Disaster Risk Reduction (GAR) is the flagship report of the United Nations on worldwide efforts to reduce disaster risk. The GAR is published biennially by the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), and is the product of the contributions of nations, public and private disaster risk-related science and research, among others. The GAR is a comprehensive review and analysis of disaster risk and risk management. #GAR19 moves beyond disaster risk to consider the pluralistic nature of risk: in multiple dimensions, at multiple scales and with multiple impacts.

IPBES 2019 Global Assessment Report on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services

This report – the first ever inter-governmental global assessment on biodiversity – has been prepared by 150 leading experts from 50 countries, with backgrounds from natural and social sciences and the support of other 250 experts collaborating to the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES). Its aim is to inform better policies and actions towards the protection of biodiversity in the coming years.

The report has been finalized and prepared for approval during the 7th Session of the IPBES Plenary on 29 April – 4 May 2019 and will be published later this year. A Summary for Policy-Makers with key messages and main findings has been launched at UNESCO world headquarters in Paris on 6 May 2019. You can read the Summary for Policy-Makers here.

This Global Assessment builds upon the earlier IPBES reports, and covers all ecosystems based on land with the exception of Antarctica, analysing changes over the last 50-year period.
The Report is expected to inform policy makers on the next steps to take in the coming decade, and also to raise awareness about the importance of multi-sectoral policies and decision-making processes.
